About
I live in the SF Bay Area in a small apartment, made smaller by ever increasing piles of books.
I often dither over what to read next. The 1001 Books to Read list promises, if not always enjoyable, at least worthwhile books to read. And as I’ve only read about 1 in 10 it will keep me busy for a long time. (Actually, I’m pretty sure death will show up considerably before I reach the end of this list.)
When I’m not pecking away at 1001 Books, I also enjoy fantasy, wonderfully frivolous novels, a good laugh-until-you-cry memoir, and the occasional business book, among others.
About the Site
In my-not-very abundant spare time, I’ve been working on my HTML and CSS skills. I decided to code a site from scratch and 1001 Books to Read lent itself as an obvious topic.
I’ve had fun (if obsessively making changes to the code for incremental improvements counts as fun) putting this site together, and look forward to developing my coding skills further.
About the List
I pulled the book titles from an online source, but the ultimate origin is 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die.
The list, compiled at one point in time and largely shaped by one cultural tradition, has some puzzling inclusions and omissions. Despite that, though, it’s an impressive guide that I enjoy following.
